Trademark Renewal in UAE – Keep Your Brand Protected

Trademark renewal is possible within 6 months after the end of the protection period. You must provide the trademark registration certificate, a valid UAE trade licence (for companies), and a power of attorney if filing through an authorised agent. EGSH specialists will verify your documents and submit the renewal application to the Ministry of Economy on your behalf.

The Ministry of Economy issues the renewed trademark certificate within one working day after the application, documents, and payment are submitted in full. EGSH ensures the process is completed accurately to avoid any delays.

If the renewal is filed within the 10th year of the protection period, the official fee is AED 6,500. If filed within 6 months after expiry, the official fee is AED 7,250. EGSH will provide a precise fee calculation for your specific case before submitting the application.

Non-resident trademark owners can renew their trademark through a UAE-registered trademark agent. A notarised and legalised power of attorney, translated into Arabic, is required. EGSH, as a government-authorised centre, can act on your behalf to submit the renewal application to the Ministry of Economy.

If a trademark is renewed after the 10-year protection period, the application may still be filed within a six-month grace period, subject to an increased Ministry of Economy fee of AED 7,250. If the renewal is not completed within this period, the trademark protection expires, and a new registration must be initiated.

A valid UAE trade licence is required if the trademark is owned by a company or establishment. Individuals applying under their personal name from within the UAE do not need a trade licence. EGSH can review your documents to ensure compliance before submitting the renewal application.

The Ministry of Economy does not conduct a re-examination during trademark renewal. The process simply extends the existing registration for another ten years, provided the application, documents, and payment are submitted correctly and within the legal deadlines.

Once the renewal is completed, it is published in the Official Trademark Bulletin issued by the Ministry of Economy. This publication serves as an official record confirming the extension of the trademark’s protection period.
