Examination of Medical Fitness for Residency Visa Renewal

The visa medical test in Dubai is a mandatory health examination carried out at a DHA-approved medical fitness centre to confirm that applicants are free from communicable diseases such as tuberculosis, HIV, and hepatitis B. It is a legal requirement under UAE health regulations before the renewal of any residence visa.

The medical screening for residence renewal can be completed only at a Dubai Health Authority–approved medical fitness centre, such as Smart Salem Medical Centre. EGSH arranges priority appointments for clients.

The requirements include undergoing a UAE visa medical test at a facility approved by the Dubai Health Authority or the relevant emirate’s health authority. Applicants must present a valid passport, Emirates ID or application form, and a recent photograph.

Under Dubai Health Authority (DHA) regulations, the medical fitness test for residence visa renewal includes a blood test and a chest X-ray to detect communicable diseases in accordance with UAE Federal Law. The specific laboratory tests conducted depend on the visa category and occupation. Particular categories, such as domestic workers, may also be subject to additional mandatory checks.

As part of the residence visa renewal process with EGSH, your medical fitness test will be scheduled at a Dubai Health Authority (DHA)–approved Smart Salem Medical Centre at a time convenient to you. The screening procedure, which includes a blood test and chest X-ray, is completed within approximately 30 minutes. Medical fitness results are transmitted electronically to the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) within 30 minutes of test completion to enable prompt continuation of your visa renewal process.

If you are found medically unfit during the DHA medical fitness screening, your residence visa renewal application will not be approved. Under UAE Federal Law, applicants diagnosed with certain communicable diseases are not eligible for a residence visa. In such cases, DHA will issue an unfit certificate and notify the GDRFA, which will take the necessary immigration actions, including visa cancellation and possible repatriation procedures, in accordance with applicable regulations.

A medical fitness certificate issued by the DHA is valid only for a limited period, as specified on the document. If it expires before your residence visa renewal is processed, you must undergo a new medical fitness test at a DHA-approved medical fitness centre.
