The Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET), formerly known as the Dubai Economic Department (DED), is the primary authority responsible for business registration, trade licensing, and commercial regulation in the Emirate of Dubai. The department plays a central role in supporting entrepreneurship, investment, and sustainable economic growth.
According to Federal Decree Law No. (32) of 2021 on Commercial Companies and local Dubai Executive Council resolutions, all commercial, professional and industrial entities must hold a valid DED licence to operate legally within Dubai Mainland. This framework ensures that every company meets the necessary regulatory, zoning and activity requirements before commencing operations.
The DED e-services, which are now part of the Dubai Business Licensing Integrated System, allow investors and business owners to complete almost all company formation and management procedures online. Through the system, users can reserve trade names, obtain initial approvals, issue or renew business licences, amend company details and track the status of their applications in real time.
By integrating data from multiple authorities, such as:
These e-services by Dubai DED promote transparency and efficiency. Depending on the business activity, this integration has made it possible to complete company registration in as little as one business day.
Only authorised Services Centres, such as EGSH, are licensed to process applications via the official DED e-Services system in Dubai. Using an accredited centre guarantees that your company’s registration and trade licence renewal are completed in full compliance with government regulations and entered directly into the DED's official database.
Unlicensed intermediaries cannot access DED systems, which may result in invalid registrations or administrative penalties for applicants. As Shaimaa Sayed Qasem explains, “Authorised trustee centres are directly connected to DED’s infrastructure. This ensures that every trade licence or amendment issued through EGSH is immediately recognised and verifiable within the official government records.”
The advantage of completing business registration or licensing through EGSH, an authorised DED service provider, is that clients no longer need to visit multiple government departments. At EGSH, each client is assigned a dedicated business consultant who handles the entire process, from reserving a trade name to issuing the final licence. Appointments may be scheduled either online or by telephone for your convenience.. Upon arrival, a personal consultant will greet you and manage all documentation in a private, comfortable setting.
Depending on the service required – such as company registration, DED licence renewal, amendment or cancellation – both the business owner and, if applicable, their authorised representative must be present. For companies, this may also include a managing partner or PRO (Public Relations Officer) with a notarised power of attorney.
The standard set of documents for DET procedures includes:
After the consultant has reviewed and verified all records, EGSH’s authorised officer enters the data into the DED e-services Dubai system. The platform automatically validates company information, checks for trade name conflicts, and calculates applicable government fees based on business activity and location.
Clients can pay all charges directly at the EGSH centre—either via cash, credit card, or e-payment systems such as Noqodi or DubaiPay. The payment receipt and application reference number are issued instantly, and the process proceeds to final approval within DED’s official portal.
When the application is approved, the Dubai DED licence or amendment document is generated electronically and emailed to the client within minutes. A digital version of the licence can be verified at any time through the official DED e-service portal.
The average processing time for most applications, including new company registrations and licence renewals, is 30–60 minutes, provided that all the necessary information is complete. More complex applications, such as those involving multi-partner companies or foreign branches, may take slightly longer depending on the number of required clearances.
This simplified procedure allows entrepreneurs to complete the entire business licensing process in one visit, ensuring that every transaction is fully compliant with Dubai Economy and Tourism Department regulations and officially recorded within the DED system.
The DED e-Services Portal also offers a secure and official way to verify the legal status of any company in Dubai. Users can instantly confirm whether a business is active, expired, or under renewal by entering a trade name, licence number, or owner’s name. The system also displays key information such as licence type, registered business activity, issue and expiry dates, and registered business address.
This online verification tool, accessible via the DED website or mobile app, helps investors, clients and government entities to confirm the legitimacy of a company registered in Dubai. It also supports due diligence by ensuring that the business holds a valid Dubai DED licence for the activities it promotes.
At EGSH, clients can request an instant company status or licence verification directly at the centre. This service is especially valuable for business partners, suppliers, and investors who need to confirm a company’s status before signing contracts or proceeding with financial transactions.
DED stands for the Department of Economic Development, the government authority responsible for Dubai’s business registration, licensing, regulation, and commercial compliance. It supports economic activity and oversees the issuance and management of business licences. The DED officially became the Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) in December 2021.
A Dubai business licence can be obtained via the DED e-services platform or in person at authorised service centres. EGSH assists clients in selecting the correct licence type and completing all required steps with the Dubai Department of Economic Development.
Once all documentation is submitted and approved, obtaining a DED licence typically takes 3 to 5 working days.
There are three main types of business licences in Dubai issued by the DED: commercial licence (for trading and general commercial activities), professional licence (for service-oriented and consultancy businesses), and industrial licence (for manufacturing or production activities). There are also special categories, such as an E-Trader Licence for online businesses and the Instant Licence for quick company setup without a physical office in the first year.
DED e-services is an online platform that allows users to complete tasks such as trade name reservation, licence application, renewal, modification, and payments. Access is available through UAE Pass or business service providers like EGSH.
