What Is Spouse & Children Visa Stamping in Dubai?

Official Validation of Family Residency in the UAE

Spouse and children visa stamping is the last stage of obtaining a UAE residence permit for dependants sponsored by a legal UAE resident. The process is managed by the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA).

Since 2022, visa stickers on passports have been replaced by digital residency confirmation. All details are stored in the Emirates ID, which now serves as official proof of residency and work authorisation.

EGSH, a government-authorised AMER centre, manages the entire procedure — from document submission and medical coordination to Emirates ID application and final GDRFA approval.

What are the visa stamping fees for dependants in Dubai?

There is no separate fee charged exclusively for visa stamping. The process forms part of the official residence visa issuance for dependants. Government charges apply for each stage, including application submission, medical fitness test (for applicants aged 18+), Emirates ID registration, and the issuance of the residence permit. The total cost depends on the visa validity period (1, 2, or 3 years) and the sponsor’s status. EGSH provides clients with a full, itemised fee breakdown before processing to ensure transparency and compliance with GDRFA regulations.

Does a UAE family visa stamp need to be renewed each time the sponsor’s visa is renewed?

Yes, dependants' residence visas are directly linked to the sponsor’s visa. When the sponsor renews their residence permit, the visas of their spouse and children must also be stamped for the same duration.

Is a medical test mandatory for UAE visa stamping?

All applicants aged 18 and above must undergo a medical fitness test at a DHA-approved centre before residence visa stamping. EGSH facilitates this process in cooperation with Smart Salem, a licensed medical centre, where the examination is completed in 10–30 minutes, with results issued electronically on the same day.

What is the process for obtaining family residency in Dubai for newborns?

Parents must apply for a residence stamp for their newborn child within 120 days of birth. The required documents are an attested UAE birth certificate, a copy of the mother’s passport, the sponsor’s documents and a valid tenancy contract. EGSH assists parents with preparing and submitting all the necessary documents within the legal timeframe.

Is GDRFA visa stamping completed with a physical sticker or digitally?

Since 2022, GDRFA visa stamping in Dubai has been completed digitally. The traditional visa sticker on the passport of the UAE has been replaced by the Emirates ID, which holds all residency information electronically. The Emirates ID serves as official proof of residency and work authorisation; visa details can be viewed in the UAEICP app or on the ICP website.

Are family members' Emirates IDs issued after stamping?

Applications for an Emirates ID are submitted alongside the stamping process. Biometrics must be completed, and once the GDRFA has approved the residency, the Emirates ID will be printed and delivered. EGSH coordinates both methods to ensure there are no delays between visa stamping and ID issuance.
